Raspberry Pi 2 unveiled with 1GB RAM Risc Os, linux and Windows 10 support
THE RASPBERRY PI 2 was unveiled on Mon Feb 02 2015, coming with double the amount of RAM which the
company says is six times faster than the original Raspberry Pi 1 mini PC.
Revealing the updated device in London, Raspberry Pi was also keen to point out that it has been working with
Microsoft to ensure that the device is supported by the new Windows 10 operating system.
The Raspberry Pi 2 will also support Ubuntu, Risc OS .
The firm said: "For the last six months we’ve been working closely with Microsoft to bring the forthcoming
Windows 10 to Raspberry Pi 2.
"Microsoft will have much more to share over the coming months. The Raspberry Pi 2-compatible version of
Windows 10 will be available free of charge to makers."
Raspberry Pi 2 comes with 1GB RAM and Windows 10 support
The Raspberry Pi 2 will cost the same as the original, $53(Aus)/(£26). It has backwards-compatibility with all
previous Raspberry Pi projects and is said to be able to run "bigger and more powerful projects" owing to some
upgraded internal specifications.
These include a Broadcom BCM2836 ARMv7 quad-core processor-powered single board computer running at
900MHz.
It also boasts expanded GPIO pins and advanced power management and connectivity, making it possible to
connect up to four USB devices, including powered devices such as hard drives.
"The 40-pin GPIO has been designed to allow multiple sensors, connectors and expansion boards to be added.
The first 26 pins are identical to the Model A and B boards for full backwards-compatibility," said the firm.
The Raspberry Pi 2 interface is also said to be snappier than previous versions.
Raspberry has sold 4.5 million mini PCs since its launch three years ago, and the firm is hoping that the new
model will help get more children into computing.
The company is looking to sell three million of the new boards a year as production is increased.
